Post Office Takes Action to Prevent Crisis Households in Gwangju Buk-gu Area
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] The Jeonnam Regional Post Office of the Korea Post has launched a pilot project for 'Welfare Registered Mail' in Buk-gu, Gwangju, following Yeonggwang-gun.
The Buk Gwangju Post Office of the Korea Post, Buk-gu Office of Gwangju, and the Post Office Public Interest Foundation signed a business agreement for the 'Welfare Registered Mail' pilot project on the 21st and decided to conduct the pilot service from September to the end of the year.
The Welfare Registered Mail project is a visiting welfare administrative service carried out in collaboration with local governments, utilizing postal workers to identify and support vulnerable households in the community.
Postal workers deliver registered mail containing information about local government welfare projects to households suspected to be in welfare blind spots, assess their living conditions, and report back to the local government, while the Post Office Public Interest Foundation supports the cost of registered mail.
The local government reflects the primary survey results conducted by postal workers to visit and counsel vulnerable households and provide customized welfare services.
The target households for the Welfare Registered Mail service are those suspected to be in crisis situations due to power or water outages, overdue utility bills, and similar issues.
To facilitate the smooth implementation of the pilot project, the Buk-gu Office of Gwangju appointed 129 postal workers from the Buk Gwangju Post Office as honorary social welfare officers of Buk-gu, Gwangju.
Moon Geun-seok, head of the Buk Gwangju Post Office, said, "The post office will take the lead in monitoring the difficulties of the local community and cooperate with local governments to become an institution that can provide help to residents."
