[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] The prosecution will decide on June 23 whether to extend the temporary release of former President Lee Myung-bak.
According to the legal community on the 21st, the Suwon District Prosecutors' Office plans to hold a parole review committee meeting on the 23rd to assess the appropriateness of extending the suspension of sentence execution for the former president.
Earlier, the former president's side applied for an extension of the suspension of sentence execution at the Anyang branch of the Suwon District Prosecutors' Office on the 16th, citing "health reasons." Former President Lee was sentenced to 17 years in prison and fined 13 billion won after being found guilty of receiving large bribes from Samsung Group and others and embezzling company funds. He was temporarily released on June 28, after serving 1 year and 7 months, under a suspension of sentence execution. At that time, he applied for the suspension due to chronic illnesses such as diabetes.
