The Nation's Largest Aviation Leisure Festival to Be Held at Uljin Airfield Starting the 24th
Drone Racing, Paragliding, and 6 Other Events Held at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Minister's Cup Competition
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Min-young] The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 21st that it will hold the '7th Aviation Leisure FESTA,' the largest aviation leisure festival in Korea, for two days starting on the 24th at the Uljin Airfield in Gyeongbuk.
The Aviation Leisure FESTA, held annually since 2014, is a comprehensive event in the aviation leisure field featuring six competitions for the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's Cup in drone racing, paragliding, powered paragliding, hang gliding, model aircraft, and skydiving.
There will be 15 experiential events including hot air balloon rides, aircraft simulators, VR smart drone experiences, and aero rocket making, as well as exhibitions of gliders, leisure aircraft, training aircraft, and promotional booths from aviation-related organizations, offering a variety of attractions.
At the opening ceremony on the 24th, a swarm drone show and model aircraft aerobatics will be performed. During the event, special exhibitions ('Approaching Museum') and planned events ('How to Become an Aviator') supported by the National Aviation Museum and Uljin Flight Training Center (Sky Dream Foundation) will be held.
'Approaching Museum' is a special event organized by the National Aviation Museum to introduce aviation culture to Uljin residents. It features a commemorative exhibition for the 100th anniversary of An Chang-nam's homeland visit flight, displays of airport models and aviation equipment from the museum's collection, and events for children such as pedal plane rides and making 3D aircraft puzzles.
'How to Become an Aviator' is a planned event that leverages the advantages of the host location where the Uljin Flight Training Center is situated. It offers aviation career counseling booths for youth dreaming of aviation, special lectures by aviation professionals including pilots, and hands-on experiences with flight simulators used in actual flight training.
Kim Heon-jeong, Director of Aviation Policy at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, said, "This event will be a richer aviation festival than ever with various aviation leisure activities, aviation career introductions, and special lectures. We hope it will be an opportunity to revitalize the aviation sector, which has been stagnant due to COVID-19."
