On the 20th at 2 p.m., Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam held a vision declaration ceremony for the Gyeongnam Changwon Materials, Parts, and Equipment Specialized Complex at the Changwon Convention Center.
About 180 officials attended the declaration ceremony, including Park Wan-su, Governor of Gyeongsangnam-do; Hong Nam-pyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City; Lee Gyu-bong, Director of the Materials, Parts, and Equipment Market Support Division at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy; Kang Yong-beom, Vice Chairman of the Gyeongsangnam-do Council; Moon Soon-gyu, Vice Chairman of the Changwon City Council; Lee Jeong-hwan, President of the Korea Institute of Materials Science; Kim Nam-gyun, Acting President of the Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute; Kim Jae-seop, CEO of DN Solutions; and Kim Jong-wook, Director of Hwacheon Machine, among others.
This event was organized to jointly declare the vision of the specialized complex by industry, academia, research, and government sectors, following the designation of the Changwon National Industrial Complex as a government-designated specialized complex for materials, parts, and equipment in February 2021 and the concretization of development projects, aiming to strengthen the cooperative ecosystem for the localization of ultra-precision processing equipment.
The Changwon National Industrial Complex is the largest hub for the domestic precision processing equipment industry, housing anchor companies in machine tools and many partner companies. The machine tool industry, known as the "machine that makes machines," is a core sector determining manufacturing competitiveness, forming the foundation of the materials, parts, and equipment industry, and requires focused development to stabilize industrial supply chains and enhance global competitiveness.
The Gyeongnam Changwon Materials, Parts, and Equipment Specialized Complex is pursuing a project worth 51.3 billion KRW aimed at becoming one of the world's top four powers in ultra-precision processing equipment. Current initiatives include establishing a CNC demonstration base, joint development of core processing technologies, and training specialized personnel. Additionally, Changwon City and Gyeongnam Province are planning further development projects to promote win-win cooperation between anchor companies and partner companies for the localization of ultra-precision processing equipment and securing processing technologies.
