‘Yeongdeok Muanbakssi Heeamjaesa’ Designated as National Intangible Cultural Heritage Notice
[Asia Economy Reporter Seomideum] The Cultural Heritage Administration has announced the preliminary designation of the ‘Yeongdeok Muan Park Clan Heeam Jae-sa (盈德 務安朴氏 喜庵齋舍)’ located in Changsumeon, Yeongdeok-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do, as a National Folk Cultural Property. Jae-sa refers to a house built to protect the ancestral tombs and hold memorial rites.
The ‘Yeongdeok Muan Park Clan Heeam Jae-sa’ is a hermitage built around the tomb of Park Euijang (朴毅長, 1555?1615), titled Muigong (武毅公), who made great achievements in the Battle of Gyeongju Fortress during the Imjin War.
The overall layout is a square-shaped building typical of the northern Gyeongbuk region, well reflecting the architectural characteristics of the area. The gatehouse, Deokhuru, is a two-story pavilion building, with ondol heating systems installed on the upper floor rooms at both ends, featuring a raised floor style that lifts the first-floor floor above the ground. Additionally, the gable roof has attached small roofs on both sides, which well represent the sculptural features of architecture in this region.
