According to the Korea Meteorological Administration on the same day, Typhoon Nanmadol is expected to move northward to the sea about 190 km northwest of Kagoshima, Japan, by 9 AM on the 19th.
The typhoon, with a central pressure of 950 hPa and maximum wind speed of 43 m/s, is forecasted to bring strong winds and heavy rainfall to the southern sea including Jeju Island and the East Sea.
The expected rainfall on the 18th and 19th is 50-100 mm (over 150 mm in some areas) in the coastal areas of Gyeongsang Province, Yeongdong region of Gangwon Province, and the mountainous areas of Jeju, with maximum instantaneous wind speeds of 25-35 m/s mainly around Jeju Island and the coastal areas of Gyeongsang Province.
Lee Sang-min, head of the CDSCH (Minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety), instructed that emergency repairs in areas affected by the previous Typhoon Hinnamnor be completed swiftly before the impact of Typhoon Nanmadol. He urged measures to prevent recurrence of damage, such as installing waterproof sheets on slopes, and requested prompt control and evacuation of residents in areas prone to flooding such as semi-basements, steep slopes, riversides, coastal roads, underpasses, and landslide-prone areas.
He also requested that residents in low-lying residential areas and underground parking lots, which are vulnerable to flooding, be guided in advance to prepare flood prevention measures such as stacking sandbags and installing flood barriers.
Furthermore, he instructed that in case of flood risk, people should be guided to immediately evacuate from low-lying houses, vehicles, and underground spaces and to avoid approaching these areas.
