Kim Dong-yeon: "I will meet regularly to give more opportunities to youth"
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Kim Dong-yeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, promised regular meetings with young people in line with the launch ceremony of the 2nd 'Youth Participation Organization.'
The Youth Participation Organization consists of a total of 215 young people (aged 19 to 39) from the eastern, western, southern, and northern regions of the province, who will play a role in creating and proposing youth policies. In particular, they will be active for one year by discovering and proposing policies in areas with high demand such as housing, jobs, and safety.
On the 17th, to mark Youth Day (the third Saturday of September), Governor Kim attended the '2nd Gyeonggi Province Youth Participation Organization Launch Ceremony' held at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Office and emphasized, "What our youth need now is not short-term benefits through budget support but opportunities," adding, "We will create an inclusive and mutually prosperous community through more and more equal opportunities such as opportunities to work, study, start a business, and love."
Governor Kim then made two promises to break the framework of the older generation and vested interests so that young people can raise their voices.
First, he said, "I ask young people to have imagination and courage and make efforts to break the mold," and added, "Accordingly, Gyeonggi Province will change the way it works."
He also said, "I will set at least one day a month to meet with young people, and if there are young people in the northern region, I will go to the north," adding, "I will regularly have conversations with young people and listen to what they want to say at any time."
Earlier, among the policies proposed by the 1st Youth Participation Organization last year, four projects were finalized as policies after review by the business departments and deliberative discussions.
The four projects are ▲ Gyeonggi Youth Single-Person Household Support Gift Package (providing essential living supplies and youth policy information for single-person households) ▲ Gyeonggi Life Guidebook (producing and distributing a guidebook containing basic knowledge needed for daily life and youth policies) ▲ Youth Mental Health Healing Program (supporting activities such as music, art, and sports, linked with local professional psychological counseling institutions) ▲ Youth Tick-Tock from Dawn (psychological healing program for young workers).
At the launch ceremony, Governor Kim presented appointment letters to the youth members of the 2nd Gyeonggi Province Youth Participation Organization and listened to and encouraged their policy proposals.
