Jeju Fire Headquarters Conducts Pre-Inspection in Preparation for Typhoon Nanmadol's Northward Approach
[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Jeongpil] The Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Fire Safety Headquarters (Chief Park Geun-o) announced on the 16th that it held a pre-inspection meeting in preparation for the approach of Typhoon Nanmadol, the 14th typhoon.
Typhoon Nanmadol was moving northwest, passing about 860 km southeast of Okinawa, Japan, at 9 a.m. that day, and is expected to come closest to Jeju between the night of the 18th and the 19th.
The Fire Safety Headquarters plans to strengthen activities such as mobilizing firefighting forces including the step-by-step activation of the emergency rescue control team, maintaining 100% operational status through pre-inspection of water pumping equipment such as power pumps, and joint patrols by volunteer firefighters along coastal areas, low-lying flood-prone areas, ports, harbors, and vulnerable residential areas.
They also plan to make thorough preparations for the typhoon's arrival, including pre-education to prevent safety accidents among field personnel.
Chief Park Geun-o said, “Although the typhoon’s path is fluid, the radius of strong winds is very large, so we cannot let our guard down as there may be direct or indirect impacts,” and added, “I have instructed the heads of frontline fire stations to conduct thorough pre-inspections by sector in preparation for the typhoon.”
He continued, “We will devote all efforts to minimizing damage to Jeju residents through the rapid activation of the emergency rescue response system.”
Meanwhile, during the approach of Typhoon Hinnamnor, the 11th typhoon, Jeju Fire Department issued a Level 3 response and deployed the largest number of personnel in history, handling a total of 326 cases including the rescue of 14 people.
The volunteer firefighters also actively took the lead in minimizing typhoon damage across the province by deploying a total of 1,431 personnel for elderly care services and safety patrols in vulnerable areas.
