The fire authorities and Daehan Coal Corporation announced on the same day, "After conducting rescue operations for two days to find A (46), who went missing around 9:45 a.m. on the 14th in the underground tunnel 675 meters deep, he was found dead at the missing location around 5:45 p.m. on the 15th."
About an hour before A went missing, fellow workers mining coal reported that more water than usual was coming out in the tunnel, indicating danger, and while taking measures to stop work, the accident occurred.
