Former Ilgu Association Chairman Lee Jaehwan Passes Away at 81 Years Old
[Asia Economy Reporter Minji Lee] Former president of Ilguhoe, a group of baseball professionals from the professional baseball league, Lee Jae-hwan passed away on the 15th at the age of 81.
Lee Jae-hwan was a legendary pitcher who led amateur baseball in the 1960s before the launch of professional baseball. While attending Gyeongdong High School in 1960, he formed a battery with former manager Baek In-cheon and led a 32-game winning streak.
Ilguhoe Secretary General Ku Kyung-baek said, "At that time, Lee Jae-hwan was nicknamed the 'Atomic Bomb Pitcher' and led the popularity of high school baseball," adding, "He was literally the top star player."
After graduating from Gyeongdong High School, Lee Jae-hwan continued his playing career at Yonsei University, and after the launch of professional baseball, he worked as a coach for teams such as MBC Cheongryong, Sammi Superstars, Binggrae Eagles, and Lotte Giants.
In 1993, Lee served as the acting manager of Sammi and led the team, and in 1992, he contributed to the Korean Series championship as the head coach of Lotte.
After finishing his coaching career as the manager of Lotte's second team, Lee Jae-hwan led Ilguhoe for a long time.
The funeral parlor was set up in a special room at Severance Hospital in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, and the funeral procession will be held on the 17th.

Survivors include his son Lee Jin-won, a former professional golf player; his daughter-in-law Kim Hyun-jung, a former national bowling representative; his daughter Lee Seung-yeon; and his grandson Lee Ji-hoon, a pitcher who joined the LG Twins this year.
