The Human Resources Development Service of Korea announced on the 15th that Lee Chan-hee (21), a player from Samsung Electro-Mechanics, won the bronze medal in the prototype modeling category at the International Skills Olympics Special Competition held in Bern, Switzerland.
Prototype modeling is a profession that uses CAD to create 3D modeling and 2D sketches to verify design elements and the feasibility of key performance before mass-producing various home appliances and automobile parts, followed by manufacturing prototypes through processes such as turning, milling, and disc sanding.
The International Skills Olympics Special Competition started on the 3rd and will be held in 26 cities across 15 countries until November 28. A total of 1,015 athletes from 60 countries are participating, and Korea has sent 51 athletes competing in 47 categories.
Lee Chan-hee, the first Korean athlete to win a medal, said he became interested in the prototype modeling category by watching seniors work at school and dreamed of winning a medal at an international competition after seeing Jeon Pil-seong, who won the Excellence Award in Indoor Control at the 2019 Kazan competition.
He expressed that although he was very nervous competing abroad, he overcame it and was thrilled to win a medal, stating, "Even if you fail, if you try hard, you will definitely be rewarded accordingly."
