[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] On the 15th, Foreign Minister Park Jin met with Larry Hogan, Governor of Maryland, USA, to exchange views on enhancing cooperation and the activities of Korean companies operating there.
Minister Park, attending the 17th Jeju Forum, met with Governor Hogan and his spouse, stating, "The scope of cooperation in the Korea-US alliance is expanding beyond military and security to economic security, advanced technology, and other areas closely related to the lives of our citizens and corporate activities." He requested, "Please continue to support the development of Korea-US relations and cooperation with the State of Maryland."
Minister Park conveyed concerns from the domestic related industries regarding the recent exclusion of Korean electric vehicles from subsidies under the US Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). He urged, "Please take active interest at the state government level so that our companies operating in the US can enjoy benefits on equal footing with American companies."
In response, Governor Hogan said, "We fully support our government's efforts to develop the Korea-US alliance," and added, "We will actively work to deepen cooperation between Korea and the State of Maryland."
