Driver Who Hit Pedestrian While Turning Right and Fled, Arrest Warrant Requested
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] A charter bus driver who fatally struck a pedestrian while making a right turn in downtown Gwangju has had an arrest warrant requested.
On the 15th, the Gwangju Western Police Station announced that they had requested a pre-arrest warrant for Mr. A (in his 70s) on charges of violating the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes (hit-and-run resulting in death).
The police explained that the warrant was requested considering the seriousness of the case, including the occurrence of a fatality.
Mr. A is accused of hitting and killing a pedestrian in his 70s, Mr. B, while making a right turn on a road in Pungam-dong, Seo-gu, Gwangju, around 7:20 a.m. on the 13th, and then fleeing the scene.
Mr. B lost consciousness and collapsed at the accident site and was transported to a nearby hospital by the 119 emergency medical team but ultimately passed away.
According to the police investigation, Mr. A made the right turn without observing the duty to stop temporarily, despite the pedestrian signal being green.
