Imsil-gun Accelerates Efforts to Establish a Pet-Friendly Hub City

[Imsil=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Nosik] Imsil-gun, Jeonbuk is accelerating efforts to create a ‘pet-friendly hub city’ through urban regeneration in the Osu district.

The county recently held a public hearing with residents at the Osu Market Merchants Association Education Center to establish an urban regeneration activation plan for the Osu district, the county announced on the 14th.

This public hearing was organized to gather diverse opinions from local residents and experts for the Imal regional specialized regeneration contest project, in accordance with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s 2022 urban regeneration project application guidelines issued last July.

Osu-myeon has long been known as a region famous for opinions, based on the Osu opinion folklore.

The urban regeneration activation plan for the Osu district focuses on creating a pet-friendly hub city within a 238,000㎡ area around Osu-ri, Osu-myeon.

It aims to revive the old reputation of Osu, which was once a commercial center, based on local history, cultural resources, tourism, industry, and welfare infrastructure related to pets, and to establish a pet-friendly hub city.

In particular, through pet-specialized projects such as a pet school, pet-specialized street, and pet house, the plan is to activate the area as the most attractive region for the 6 million pet-owning households nationwide.

Additionally, with the recent establishment of the Department of Pet Industry at Osu High School, the county is proactively responding by signing an agreement with Jeonju Kijeon University to support education for training pet experts, as well as linking to employment and start-ups.

The county plans to carefully review the various opinions from residents and experts presented at this public hearing and reflect them in the urban regeneration activation plan. After administrative procedures such as hearing opinions from the Imsil County Council, it will apply for the urban regeneration project contest.

County Governor Shim Min said, “The Osu area is quite an attractive region as a type of regional specialized regeneration for this contest project,” and added, “We will strive to be selected in this year’s contest by implementing a specialized regeneration model unique to Osu so that the project can be executed.”
