Zelensky: "This Winter Will Be a Turning Point in the War"... Urges for Weapon Support
"Next 90 Days More Important Than Past 30 Years of Independence"
Zelensky Urges West for Stronger Weapon Support
[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Nayeon] Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed the possibility of a ceasefire negotiation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
On the 10th (local time), President Zelensky emphasized the recent consecutive achievements of his country's military, stating, "This winter will be a turning point (in the war)" and stressed that for Ukraine, "the next 90 days are more important than the past 30 years of independence."
According to foreign media, on the 10th (local time), President Zelensky attended the Yalta European Strategy conference held in Kyiv and said, "I cannot be sure that President Putin will keep his promises," adding, "At present, it is impossible to negotiate a ceasefire with Russia."
Earlier, the Ukrainian military recently recaptured Kharkiv in the northeast, which had been taken by Russian forces in the early stages of the war. Russian troops, who were occupying key strategic points in Kharkiv Oblast such as Barakliya and Izium, repeatedly retreated under the Ukrainian offensive and eventually admitted their withdrawal by stating they would "reorganize their units."
President Zelensky said that for Ukraine to win the war, "three things must be maintained: weapons, ammunition, and funds," and added, "If we had slightly stronger weapons, we could have freed ourselves from occupation more quickly." While highlighting the military's achievements, he urged the West for stronger weapons support.
Western support for Ukraine continues. U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken made an unannounced surprise visit to Kyiv on the 8th and promised $2 billion in military aid to Ukraine and Europe. Separately, U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin announced support with weapons worth $675 million (approximately 900 billion KRW).
