[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] The Changwon Maritime Police Station in Gyeongnam will enter emergency duty from the 9th to the 12th to prevent accidents during the Chuseok holiday.
On the 7th, before starting emergency duty, Changwon Maritime Police inspected the response readiness of the coastal police stations related to sea route usage and marine accidents, as well as checked the captains of passenger and guided boats.
The Maritime Police noted that due to the impact of COVID-19, the number of passengers using passenger boats (yuseon) decreased from 2019 to last year, with only 22 passengers in 2020, but they expect an increase in passenger boat users this year due to the lifting of social distancing measures.
Guided boats (doseon) averaged 1,857 passengers during the same period, a 144% increase compared to the usual average of 761, and fishing boat users averaged 2,502, a 132% increase compared to the usual 1,076, they reported.
Accordingly, the Maritime Police plan to ▲ strategically deploy patrol vessels along guided boat routes ▲ intensively patrol fishing boat dense areas and rocky shores ▲ conduct special crackdowns on crimes such as drunk navigation, overloading, violations of business zones, illegal fishing, and theft.
