Gwangju Seo-gu Operates Communication Policy 'My District Office Next to Me'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Kim I-gang) announced on the 7th that it will operate ‘The District Mayor’s Office by My Side,’ which moves swiftly between neighborhoods and the district office, as part of its public communication policy.
This project is the second implementation following the district mayor’s direct hotline ‘Baro Munja Harangkke’ launched last month, consisting of two programs: ‘Open Field Meetings’ and ‘Visiting Field District Mayor’s Office.’
‘Open Field Meetings’ are held twice a week from this month through next month, and once a week starting in November, with the district mayor visiting four designated hub neighborhoods (Chipyeong-dong, Geumho 1-dong, Pungam-dong, Dongcheon-dong) sequentially to lead the implementation of a pioneering village government.
On the day of the meeting, neighborhood staff and village activists will participate together to share the vision and activities of the hub neighborhoods and discuss opinions on village issues and development.
In particular, for long-standing neighborhood projects or long-term civil complaints causing resident inconvenience, the district mayor personally visits the site to identify problems and devise solutions.
The ‘Visiting Field District Mayor’s Office,’ starting in November, will be held sequentially every Thursday at 18 neighborhood administrative welfare centers.
It will focus on field activities such as holding resident communication meetings to gather diverse opinions from residents and inspecting major vulnerable areas and resident convenience facilities.
Additionally, through meetings with staff, the district mayor will listen to their working conditions and suggestions, seeking progressive directions for improving administrative service quality and revitalizing Seo-gu-style village government.
District Mayor Kim I-gang said, “We will strengthen open field activities that directly identify and solve problems on site together with residents from various social strata,” adding, “We will realize a sustainable and self-reliant Seo-gu-style village government through various administrative and financial support for the villages.”
Meanwhile, Seo-gu designated four hub neighborhoods by region in July to pilot the implementation of village government that directly discovers and solves village problems, planning to expand the village government step-by-step to eight neighborhoods in 2024 and to all neighborhoods in 2025.
