The "War on Trash" is a major pledge of Mayor Park Hee-young's 8th term, aiming to once again focus on public welfare sites ahead of Chuseok.
On this day, Mayor Park will directly check the results of the district's comprehensive cleanup efforts in August targeting illegal dumping areas. While the area around 125 Sinheung-ro has become clean after the cleanup, illegal dumping remains at 7 Sinheung-ro 12-gil.
The cleaning staff at Yongsan 2-ga-dong Community Service Center said, "7 Sinheung-ro 12-gil is near the so-called 'Tokkigul' connecting Itaewon 2-dong and Haebangchon, where houses and businesses are mixed," adding, "Despite not being a designated disposal site, frequent violations such as not using designated garbage bags and illegal dumping of delivery food occur, making it difficult to resolve even with this comprehensive cleanup."
Yongsan 2-ga-dong is an area densely populated with old single-family and multi-family houses. Due to many hills and alleys, the workload for cleaning workers is heavy. Additionally, 1,296 foreigners from 76 countries reside here, posing challenges in providing guidance in various languages.
Park Hee-young, Mayor of Yongsan District, stated, "Yongsan 2-ga-dong is the most severely affected area in terms of residential environment improvement through urban regeneration," and added, "While strengthening patrols in habitual illegal dumping areas, we will also request the Seoul Metropolitan Government to ease height restrictions to facilitate prompt development of the area."
The district has set up a cleaning countermeasures situation room during the holiday period to handle cleaning complaints and conduct focused inspections of habitual illegal dumping areas. From the 8th to the 11th, trash collection will not be conducted throughout the district. On the 13th, after the holiday, accumulated trash will be collected all at once to create a clean street environment.
