Mayor Lee Kang-deok held an emergency countermeasure meeting on the weekend of the 4th to prepare for the super typhoon ‘Hinnamnor,’ and on the 5th, ahead of its full landfall, visited disaster-prone areas to inspect the sites and urged officials and residents to prepare thoroughly.
On the 5th, Mayor Lee visited the Guryongpo traditional market stores and damage recovery sites, which suffered significant damage from Typhoon ‘Mitag’ in 2019, urging residents and merchants to prevent flood damage by pre-maintaining drainage channels and moving essential goods to safe locations. He also ordered thorough preparation, including stacking waterproof sheets, securing facilities such as signboards, closely monitoring disaster situations, and identifying evacuation sites in advance.
He consecutively visited the steep slope landslide-prone area of Guman-ri, Homigot, and the construction site at Daehwa Stream in Janggi-myeon, meticulously checking the preparedness of related agencies and eup/myeon/dong offices to achieve zero casualties and minimize property damage.
At the site, Mayor Lee emphasized, “This typhoon ‘Hinnamnor’ is a super typhoon with greater power than past typhoons Rusa and Maemi, so significant damage is expected. I urge the public and private sectors to respond with full force to minimize regional damage.”
All Pohang city employees are inspecting vulnerable areas and standing by for emergencies in accordance with the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters’ ‘Level 3’ crisis alert ‘Severe,’ fully prepared to respond to any situation.
Earlier, on the 4th, the city held an emergency countermeasure meeting chaired by Mayor Lee Kang-deok at the City Hall Disaster Safety Situation Room to prepare for Typhoon No. 11 ‘Hinnamnor.’
This meeting was held following the video conference countermeasure meeting chaired by Governor Lee Cheol-woo for ‘Hinnamnor’ preparedness. It was arranged to review the measures discussed at the emergency countermeasure meeting of related agencies chaired by the mayor on the 2nd, and to minimize typhoon damage through proactive situation management and thoroughly check key management situations.
On this day, with heads of departments and eup/myeon/dong chiefs attending, Mayor Lee repeatedly emphasized the thorough strengthening of flood prevention measures in vulnerable areas such as coastal lowlands, landslide-prone zones, steep slopes, and drainage channels by mobilizing all available resources. He also meticulously checked the deployment of flood control materials and equipment such as pumps and waterproof sheets, urging strict adherence to proactive and concrete preventive measures.
Since citizen safety is paramount, he ordered thorough preparation and readiness for emergencies, including the proactive evacuation of residents in coastal lowlands and other vulnerable areas. He also urged special prior measures for vulnerable facilities such as vinyl greenhouses, riverside parking lots, and urban drainage systems, emphasizing the need to establish comprehensive damage prevention plans.
