All Schools in Ulsan City Closed... Ulsan Office of Education Takes Full Measures for Educational Facility Safety and Typhoon Preparedness
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] The Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education is making every effort to minimize damage caused by the northward approach of Typhoon No. 11 ‘Hinnamnor’ by rechecking safety measures at educational facilities and taking comprehensive countermeasures.
On the 5th, the Office of Education held an emergency countermeasure meeting in the policy conference room to prepare for Typhoon No. 11 ‘Hinnamnor’ and reviewed response situations in various sectors.
Schools and institutions inspected steep slopes vulnerable to disasters and landslide-prone areas in advance, installed tarpaulins, and took safety measures. Temporary structures at new or expanded school construction sites were either secured or dismantled.
Schools with rooftop structures or solar power facilities also rechecked the securing of these installations. In particular, schools that had previously suffered damage from typhoons or were at risk of flooding were instructed to strengthen facility inspections.
Currently, the Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education has formed and is operating a disaster response situation management task force in response to the typhoon’s approach. It has established countermeasures in various areas including student safety management, after-school elementary care, accident prevention, dormitory safety management, and facility damage recovery.
If damage occurs to school facilities, emergency repair funds will be provided promptly using reserve funds to ensure swift restoration.
On the 6th, when the typhoon is expected to be closest, all schools including kindergartens, elementary, middle, high, and special schools will be closed entirely. High schools may choose between closure and remote classes at the discretion of the school principal.
An official from the Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education stated, “Along with safety measures for disaster-vulnerable facilities, we have formed a situation management task force to maintain a 24-hour emergency duty system in preparation for the typhoon. After the warning is lifted, we will immediately assess damage to educational facilities and respond swiftly to prevent secondary damage.”
