Deputy Minister of Education Urges "Active Implementation of School Closures and Remote Classes"
Request for Facility Safety Measures
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Jang Sang-yoon, Vice Minister of Education, urged all schools to actively implement closures, remote classes, or shortened classes in response to Typhoon Hinnamnor, the 11th typhoon of the season.
On the 4th, the Ministry of Education held a meeting of vice superintendents of education from cities and provinces chaired by Vice Minister Jang Sang-yoon to review preparations for the typhoon. During the meeting, they shared response plans with local education offices, including pre-inspections of disaster-vulnerable facilities, adjustments to academic operations, and maintenance of emergency work systems, and discussed safety measures for school facilities and damage prevention strategies.
Vice Minister Jang said, "Based on inspections of low-lying areas and steep slopes, please prepare urgent safety measures or evacuation plans for places at high risk of accidents during strong winds and heavy rain." He added, "Especially, please recheck facilities that were damaged by the heavy rain in August."

He also requested, "When weather warnings are issued, please actively adjust academic operations through meetings by implementing school closures, switching to remote classes, or shortening class hours to prioritize students' safety. In such cases, please promptly and accurately inform parents to prevent any confusion."
