The Criminal Division 22 of Cheongju District Court (Chief Judge Yoon Jung-ryeol) announced on the 4th that A (37), who was indicted for violating the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving) and causing injury while obstructing a special official in the execution of duty, was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in prison with 4 years of probation. He was also ordered to perform 200 hours of community service and attend 80 hours of safe driving lectures.
A is accused of dragging a police officer on his passenger car and driving 20 meters in the underground parking lot of an apartment in Yongam-dong, Sangdang-gu, Cheongju-si, at around 12:17 a.m. on October 11 last year. When the police officer, who responded to a suspected drunk driving report, tried to stop his car, A attempted to flee. The police officer, who tried to block the driving by getting into the car, sustained injuries requiring two weeks of medical treatment.
A, who was fleeing, was immediately caught by the police. The subsequent breathalyzer test showed that A’s blood alcohol concentration was 0.231%.

Chief Judge Yoon said, "The crime is serious as the defendant refused the police officer’s legitimate request to stop while intoxicated, fled, and caused harm," but added, "Considering the defendant’s sincere attitude of remorse and the fact that the police officer does not wish to press charges for the injury caused while obstructing a special official in the execution of duty, the sentence was determined."
