New Confirmed Cases 79,746, Severe Cases 520 - Deaths 74... 9,840 Fewer Than Previous Day (Update)
[Asia Economy Reporter Minji Lee] As the decline in the resurgence of COVID-19 continues, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases on the 3rd was recorded at 79,746.
According to the Central Disease Control Headquarters, the number of new confirmed cases on this day decreased by 9,840 from the previous day (89,586), bringing the cumulative total to 23,497,048.
This is 15,837 fewer than a week ago on the 27th of last month (95,583) and 49,609 fewer than two weeks ago on the 20th of last month (129,355), indicating a clear downward trend.
Based on Saturday announcements, this is the lowest number in six weeks since July 23 (68,525).
The number of new confirmed cases over the past week from the 28th to this day was 85,235 → 43,116 → 115,617 → 103,936 → 81,573 → 89,586 → 79,746, averaging 85,544 cases per day.
There were 323 imported cases, 6 more than the previous day (317). From midnight on this day, the government suspended the requirement for all domestic and foreign nationals entering from overseas to submit a negative COVID-19 test certificate before entry. Excluding imported cases, domestic regional infections numbered 79,423.
The number of new confirmed cases by region (including imported cases) were Seoul 13,899, Gyeonggi 21,130, Gyeongnam 4,978, Incheon 4,503, Gyeongbuk 4,371, Daegu 4,238, Busan 4,172, Chungnam 3,702, Jeonbuk 2,931, Chungbuk 2,880, Jeonnam 2,795, Daejeon 2,512, Gangwon 2,408, Gwangju 2,235, Ulsan 1,449, Jeju 793, Sejong 736, and quarantine 14.
Although the scale of new confirmed cases is decreasing, the number of critically ill patients and deaths remains high. As of midnight on this day, the number of critically ill patients in care was 520, an increase of 12 from the previous day. This marks the 11th consecutive day since the 24th of last month that the number has remained in the 500s. The number of deaths from COVID-19 the previous day was 74, 10 more than the day before. Among the deceased, 47 (63.5%) were aged 80 or older, 18 were in their 70s, 7 in their 60s, and 1 each in their 50s and 40s.
The cumulative number of deaths is 27,014. The cumulative fatality rate of COVID-19 dropped from 0.12% to 0.11% in today's announcement. The cumulative fatality rate had previously fallen from 0.13% to 0.12% on the 4th of last month. Among critically ill patients and deaths, high-risk groups aged 60 or older accounted for 86.0% and 97.3%, respectively.
As of 5 p.m. the previous day, the utilization rate of critical care beds was 36.7% (679 out of 1,848 beds), down 1.1 percentage points (p) from the previous day (37.8%). The utilization rates of semi-critical care beds and moderate care beds were 46.2% and 33.4%, respectively, down 2.2 p and 0.3 p from the previous day.
