Flood Warning Devices and Window Frame Water Barriers... LH Strengthens Safety of Semi-basement Housing
Repair and Reinforcement of Flood Prevention Facilities
Improvement of Flood Control Facilities Including Installation of Flood Warning Devices
Following last month's record-breaking heavy rains that caused flooding damage to houses in low-lying and disaster-prone areas, Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) announced on the 2nd that it has prepared a 'Safety Assurance Plan for Semi-basement Purchased Rental Housing.'
LH plans to promote the relocation of residents living in semi-basement purchased rental housing to above-ground rental housing, and will carry out facility improvements to prevent disaster damage until the relocation is completed.
First, LH will inspect rainwater and sewage pipelines and areas at risk of rainwater inflow, place portable drainage pumps, check their operational status, and verify the availability of flood prevention materials such as sandbags and shovels to support residents in responding immediately to emergency situations.
Additionally, to prevent and delay basement flooding, LH will install drainage pumps, waterproof thresholds (water barriers), and backflow prevention devices on sewage pipes in kitchens and bathrooms.
In case evacuation routes are blocked due to basement flooding, operable security windows will be installed to allow evacuation through windows.
To prepare for situations where water rises on the basement floor, flood warning devices will be installed to help residents secure a golden evacuation time.
Meanwhile, before improving the semi-basement purchased rental housing facilities, LH will inspect the flood damage site of purchased rental housing located in Gwanak-gu, Seoul, on the same day.
As of last month, LH has received requests for housing support for a total of about 100 households from local governments in the metropolitan area, including 53 households in Dongjak-gu, Seoul, 10 households in Yeongdeungpo-gu, and 9 households in Gwanak-gu.
LH plans to utilize its owned rental housing, but if it is difficult to use owned housing, support will be provided through the jeonse rental housing type. Housing inspections have been completed so that move-in can proceed as soon as consultations with eligible households are finalized, and currently, LH is confirming the move-in intentions of each household.
