Gurye-gun to Conduct Special Monitoring and Crackdown on Environmental Pollution During Chuseok Holiday
Chuseok Holiday Vulnerable Period: Focused Monitoring and Crackdown on Agricultural and Industrial Complexes, Water Source Areas
[Gurye=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yuk Mi-seok] Gurye-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim Soon-ho) will conduct special monitoring activities focusing on facilities discharging environmental pollutants, water source protection areas, and pollution-vulnerable areas from September 5 to September 12 to prevent environmental pollution during the Chuseok holiday period.
This monitoring activity aims to prevent businesses from illegally discharging environmental pollutants by taking advantage of the reduced oversight by enforcement agencies during the holiday period and to proactively prevent environmental pollution exploiting this vulnerable time.
From September 5 to 8, before the holiday, measures will be taken to prevent environmental pollution accidents and encourage voluntary inspections. In particular, special inspections of facilities discharging environmental pollutants will verify the normal operation of discharge and prevention facilities and check for unauthorized pollutant discharge and surrounding environmental pollution.
During the holiday period from September 9 to September 12, a 'Special Monitoring Situation Room' will be operated to enable rapid response in case of environmental pollution accidents, maintaining an emergency communication system with related agencies.
The county plans to take strong actions such as filing complaints and administrative measures under relevant laws against businesses that intentionally and habitually discharge wastewater and livestock manure illegally during the special monitoring period.
Governor Kim Soon-ho stated, “Through special monitoring activities, we will do our best to ensure that illegal environmental pollution does not occur during vulnerable times such as the Chuseok holiday, so that residents can spend a safe and comfortable Chuseok holiday.”
