"Rich Aroma and Clean Umami" One Spirits Launches 'Wonsoju Classic'
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] On the 1st, One Spirits Co., Ltd. announced the launch of ‘Wonsoju Classic,’ which uses newly developed yeast in Korea and applies atmospheric distillation.
Wonsoju Classic is a product created using Totomi, a clean rice from Gangwon Province, nuruk, and yeast extracted from nuruk. One Spirits applied the No. 5 yeast, which showed the best taste, aroma, and fermentation speed after over nine months of experimentation among eight yeast strains developed by the Korea Food Research Institute, to Wonsoju Classic.
Additionally, it is distilled using the traditional atmospheric distillation method, characterized by diverse aromas and deep flavors. According to the company, drinking it as miso (lukewarm soju) allows one to experience the product’s unique aroma and smooth throat sensation, while drinking it cold offers a clean umami taste.
Wonsoju Classic sells 30,000 bottles monthly. One Spirits plans to sell 1,400 bottles daily on weekdays starting at 2 p.m. this month through the ‘Wonsoju Online Mall’ on a first-come, first-served basis. Also, on the last Sunday of every month from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., 2,000 bottles will be sold via a draw to consumers who have no prior purchase history of Wonsoju Classic on the company’s own mall. Winners will be announced at 5 p.m. on the same day.

Park Jaebeom, CEO of One Spirits, said, “This Wonsoju Classic is the first product to use yeast developed domestically and offers rich aroma and deep flavor through atmospheric distillation.” He added, “Going forward, One Spirits plans to introduce traditional liquors made by various methods to promote the charm of traditional Korean liquors representing Korea.”
