Gyeonggi Province Strengthens Cooperation with Latvia... Governor Kim Dong-yeon Meets Latvian Ambassador
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province is expanding exchange and cooperation with Latvia.
Gyeonggi Province announced that Governor Kim Dong-yeon met with Aris VIGANTS, the Ambassador of Latvia to Korea, at the Gyeonggi Provincial Office on the 31st and agreed to cooperate to expand exchanges in various fields, including startups.
At the meeting, Governor Kim said, "Gyeonggi Province plans to actively promote international cooperative relations and wants to strengthen cooperation with neighboring countries including Latvia," adding, "In the future, strengthening cooperation with Latvia in economic and industrial personnel exchanges, including startups and ventures, will produce mutually beneficial results."
In response, Ambassador Aris VIGANTS said, "I believe there is great potential for cooperation between Gyeonggi Province and Latvia, including startups and culture. It would be great to have deeper cooperation with an important region like Gyeonggi Province," and added, "We are also preparing to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). I hope you, Governor, will visit Riga, the capital of Latvia, with an economic delegation around next spring."
Governor Kim invited Ambassador Aris VIGANTS to the "Let's DMZ" walking event held in the Paju area in October, and Ambassador Aris VIGANTS invited Governor Kim to the "Baltic States International Exchange Exhibition" held at the Gyeonggi Living Ceramics Museum in Yeoju.
Ambassador Aris VIGANTS was appointed as the Ambassador of Latvia to Korea in April 2020. He has served as Deputy Director of the First Bilateral Diplomacy Department at the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Head of the Russia Division, and Political Counselor at the Latvian Embassy in the United States.
The meeting was held at the suggestion of Ambassador Aris VIGANTS, who wanted to discuss Korea-Latvia relations and exchange and cooperation plans between Gyeonggi Province and Latvia with Governor Kim.

Since 2018, the province has maintained a cooperative relationship by signing an economic cooperation agreement with the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia. In June, the head of the Latvian Investment Agency visited Gyeonggi Province, accelerating exchanges by inspecting local technology companies in fields such as water resources, robotics, smart factories, and drones.
