Gyeongnam Province Prepares Special Traffic Measures Including Quarantine Management and Traffic Volume Dispersion
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] Gyeongsangnam-do will implement special traffic measures for the Chuseok holiday from September 9 to 12.
Gyeongnam Province is preparing measures to accommodate the increased traffic demand during the Chuseok holiday period and to ensure that residents and returning visitors can use transportation conveniently and safely.
The province is also preparing for the resurgence of COVID-19 and natural disasters such as the heavy rain in the metropolitan area last August.
Safety inspections of multi-use facilities such as terminals and quarantine management in response to the increased floating population within the province will be focused on, allowing for direct on-site verification and improvements.
At terminals and stations crowded with returning visitors, the province and city/county governments plan to jointly inspect COVID-19 quarantine management and traffic safety conditions before Chuseok.
Any deficiencies will be promptly addressed to minimize inconvenience to residents.
To facilitate the use of public transportation, the province will collaborate with local transportation companies and transportation unions to provide courteous safety education to transportation workers on ▲compliance with safe driving ▲passenger service ▲actions to take in case of accidents.
During the Chuseok holiday, the province and city/county governments will operate special traffic measure situation rooms.
They will establish an emergency response system with related organizations such as the National Police Agency and the Road Traffic Authority to prepare a recovery system in case of emergencies such as traffic accidents.
Prior to this, the province announced on the 31st that it issued improvement orders to 11 intercity bus companies to increase bus frequency and implement detours to enhance public transportation capacity and disperse traffic volume.
During the holiday, 58 routes within the province will have 199 additional trips, and routes in habitual congestion areas such as the Namhae Expressway between Busan and Jinju and the Jungbu Expressway between Naeseo and Gimcheon will be detoured.

A provincial official said, “We will focus all administrative efforts on implementing resident-centered special traffic measures so that visitors to Gyeongnam and residents can use safe and convenient public transportation,” adding, “To prevent COVID-19, please be sure to wear a mask when using public transportation and follow daily quarantine guidelines.”
