Suncheon City Council Passes Resolution to Form Special Committee Supporting Medical School Attraction
Assembly Elects Representative Kang Hyung-gu as Chairman
[Suncheon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] The Suncheon City Council announced on the 29th that it passed a resolution to form a Special Committee to Support the Attraction of a Medical School to address the medical blind spots in Jeonnam Province at the 2nd plenary session of the 262nd Suncheon City Council temporary meeting.
Kang Hyung-gu was elected as the chairman of the Special Committee to Support the Attraction of a Medical School, and Shin Jeong-ran was elected as the vice-chair. A total of 11 members, including Yoo Young-gap, Jang Kyung-soon, Kim Tae-hoon, Seo Seon-ran, Choi Hyun-ah, Yang Dong-jin, Lee Se-eun, Jang Kyung-won, and Jeong Gwang-hyun, plan to serve as committee members until the end of December next year.
Kang Hyung-gu, who proposed the resolution to form the Special Committee to Support the Attraction of a Medical School, stated, “Jeonnam is the only metropolitan local government among the 17 metropolitan autonomous entities nationwide without a medical school. The aging population ratio is also high at about 24%, leading to a high dependence on public health, but the current medical facilities are very poor, and especially, there is no advanced general hospital.” He added, “Through the activities of the Special Committee, we aim to support the attraction of a medical school to Suncheon to resolve the medical blind spots in Jeonnam Province and respond to the aspirations of 290,000 Suncheon citizens and 2 million Jeonnam residents.”
