Incheon City Reorganizes 27 Inefficient Committees... 8 Abolished or Merged
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Incheon City announced on the 29th that, as part of its administrative innovation, it plans to reorganize 27 unnecessary or inefficient committees out of the 270 committees under the city.
The city will abolish two committees, the Low Birthrate Countermeasure Committee and the Namchon Agricultural Products Wholesale Market Transaction Dispute Committee, and merge six committees with overlapping or similar functions. Nineteen committees that need to be maintained but have few agenda items will be converted into ad hoc committees.
Currently, Incheon City operates 270 committees, which is the third highest number among cities and provinces nationwide.
Accordingly, excluding 171 committees stipulated by law, the city reviewed the remaining 99 committees operated under ordinances or regulations and finally decided to reorganize 27 committees that have poor meeting performance or are inefficiently operated.
After the committee reorganization, the city will also strengthen monitoring to ensure that no specific member is appointed to more than three committees simultaneously or reappointed for more than six years to prevent long-term overlapping appointments.
Additionally, to enhance the capabilities of citizen-appointed members, the city plans to introduce a system requiring newly appointed or reappointed members in the second half of this year to complete mandatory lectures at the Committee School to be operated next year.
