View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Donghoon Jeong] Shin Hak-cheol, Vice Chairman of LG Chem, personally led a local recruitment event in the United States to secure global innovative technology talents who will drive future new growth engine businesses.
LG Chem announced on the 28th that Vice Chairman Shin Hak-cheol, along with Yoo Ji-young, CTO (Chief Technology Officer) Vice President, and Kim Sung-min, CHO (Chief Human Resources Officer) Vice President, conducted the 'BC Tour' held at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York, USA, on the 26th.
At the event, about 40 master's and doctoral candidates were invited from over 20 major universities in North America, including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Harvard University, University of Toronto in Canada, and McGill University. The main majors of the attendees were closely related to LG Chem's new growth engines, such as eco-friendly materials, low-carbon processes, next-generation battery materials, and innovative new drug development.
Executives, including Vice Chairman Shin, shared LG Chem's R&D (Research and Development) status and direction, and had time to directly discuss the company's vision and R&D strategies with the attending talents.
Vice Chairman Shin personally visited the tables where the talents were seated to engage in conversations. The attendees showed great interest by asking questions about LG Chem's culture of embracing challenges without fear of failure, research environment, scale of R&D investment related to sustainability, and cathode material business.
LG Chem has selected three major new growth engines: ▲Eco-friendly sustainability business ▲Battery materials ▲Global innovative new drugs, and is accelerating the development of innovative technologies by increasing R&D expenses by more than 35% compared to the previous year, planning an investment of 1 trillion won this year.
Vice Chairman Shin, who personally led the recruitment event, said, "We are living in an unprecedented era of 'Great Reset' where the pandemic, climate crisis, and geopolitical conflicts occur simultaneously. After such great transitions or crises, innovations driven by science and technology talents like you have followed, becoming the driving force and breakthrough for human progress."
