A senior official from the presidential office said to reporters at the Yongsan presidential office in the afternoon, "The presidential office must be maintained by people who have the capability to dedicate and serve the public and share that aptitude. Personnel reform, or organizational review and reorganization, has always continued in every administration," he said.
Around the 100-day mark of President Yoon Seok-yeol's inauguration, he ordered all employees below the level of Grade 2 Senior Administrative Officer to write a job description. It is known that the job description asked whether they met two major criteria: the spirit of public officials who sacrifice and serve the people, and the capability to earn the trust of the public. Additionally, the Office of Political Affairs last week recommended retirement to 3 out of 10 Senior Administrative Officers and Administrative Officers.
It has been reported that a secretary from the Office of Civil Society, who was under inspection by the Office of Public Service Discipline for inappropriate contact with external personnel and interference in personnel matters, recently expressed his intention to resign voluntarily. Also, Secretary B under the Office of Civil Society is currently referred to the personnel committee meeting scheduled for the 29th to decide on disciplinary action. This is the first time the presidential office has convened a personnel committee since President Yoon took office.
In response to a reporter's remark that "there are criticisms that the focus is on a specific senior office," the official emphasized, "There is a technical order where job descriptions are received and the senior offices whose submissions are completed first must be addressed first. This is a procedure carried out throughout the presidential office, and all public officials regardless of rank will be subject to it. I am no exception."
Some speculate that the personnel reshuffle could expand to a scale of 10 secretaries being replaced. Regarding this, the official cautioned against overinterpretation, saying, "Inspection of parts deemed inappropriate regarding the roles and responsibilities assigned to positions within the presidential office and the readjustment of duties that could be expanded even to the current secretary level are separate matters."
