Gyeonggi Office of Education to Deploy 122 Additional Special School Teachers

The Gyeonggi Office of Education announced on the 28th that it will raise the standard for special school kindergarten teachers from 1 per class to 1.3 per class, and for special school elementary teachers from 1.5 per class to 1.8 per class, and will additionally assign a total of 122 teachers, including 21 kindergarten teachers and 101 elementary school teachers, effective September 1.
The Gyeonggi Office of Education expects that the additional assignment of special school teachers for kindergarten and elementary levels will support the special education field, which has faced difficulties due to manpower shortages, by managing students' health, ensuring safety, and enhancing individualized special education.
In particular, it plans to support the rapid securing of additional teachers for special schools by utilizing the contract teacher manpower pool together with the Education Support Office.
Kim Sun-hee, head of the Special Education Division at the Gyeonggi Office of Education, said, "By expanding the long-efforted assignment of special school teachers, we have been able to secure the educational rights of students with disabilities and improve satisfaction with public education," adding, "This is the result of the swift reflection of the 'Special Education Support' will contained in the white paper of the 5th Resident-Elected Gyeonggi Provincial Superintendent of Education Transition Committee announced on the 8th."
