The Democratic Party to Establish a 'New Emergency Committee'... Discussion on Revising Party Rules at Next Week's Party Meeting (Comprehensive)
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] On the 27th, the People Power Party held a party caucus meeting and decided to dismantle the 'Joo Ho-young Emergency Response Committee' system, revise the party constitution and regulations, and form a new Emergency Response Committee.
The People Power Party held a marathon meeting for about five hours from 4 p.m. that day and made this resolution, according to floor spokespersons Park Hyung-soo and Yang Geum-hee.
In a statement following the caucus meeting, the People Power Party said, "Due to the unprecedented situation causing legislative deficiencies in the party constitution and regulations, we have resolved to revise the related party constitution and regulations and then form a new Emergency Response Committee."
It was judged that a return to the past Supreme Council is fundamentally impossible, and that there are practical limits to continuing the Emergency Response Committee due to the court's decision on the injunction suspending the effectiveness of former leader Lee Jun-seok's Emergency Response Committee.
Responding to reporters' questions about former leader Lee's warning that he would file an additional injunction if the Emergency Response Committee system is maintained, floor spokesperson Yang said, "That is why we decided to establish a new Emergency Response Committee," adding, "Before establishing the new Emergency Response Committee, we will clearly amend the party constitution and regulations and then form the new committee."
The People Power Party plans to include specific provisions regarding the conditions for forming an Emergency Response Committee through amendments to the party constitution and regulations, such as 'more than half of the Supreme Council members resigning' or 'resignation of elected Supreme Council members.' In this regard, floor leader Kwon Seong-dong decided to convene a party caucus meeting next week to discuss amendments to the party constitution and regulations.
However, until the amendments to the party constitution and regulations are made, the current Emergency Response Committee system will be maintained. When a new Emergency Response Committee is established after the amendments, the chairperson and members of the committee will be discussed anew. Currently, no acting chairperson has been appointed. Regarding this, Chairman Joo also responded "I do not know" when asked whether he would serve as chairperson of the new Emergency Response Committee.
Regarding the position of floor leader Kwon, who is being held responsible within the party, it was decided to reconvene the party caucus meeting after the situation is resolved to make a judgment.

Furthermore, the People Power Party reaffirmed in the resolution its plan to proceed with objection procedures such as filing an objection and appeal against the court's injunction approval decision.
