What Is Korea's First Ramen? ... "Freshly Fried, Delicious Ramen Cooks Well in Gumi!"
August 27-28, 'This Year's Gumi Ramyeon Camping Festival' Held
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Fighting fire with fire, Gumi is deliciously boiling at the end of summer.
Gumi City will hold the ‘2022 Gumi Ramen Camping Festival’ for two days from August 27 to 28 at the Nakdong River Sports Park Gumi Camping Site.
This ramen-themed event, held for the first time under local government supervision, was selected last year as part of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s ‘2022 Industrial Tourism Promotion’ public project and is being conducted with 80 million KRW in national funding.
The Shin Ramyun used in this event is a product freshly fried and packaged at the Nongshim Gumi factory early on the day of the event, which seems sufficient to pique the curiosity of tourists visiting the festival.
Among the programs enriching the event are a unique ramen cooking contest with my own secret recipe, eating ramen with long chopsticks, ramen ASMR, finding the longest noodle strand, and guessing the ramen soup base, offering a playground for various ramen enthusiasts to compete.
What particularly draws attention at this event is the Walking Road exhibition zone. Breaking away from the spatial confinement of traditional exhibition halls, visitors can stroll around the Gumi Camping Site area and learn about the history of ramen in an interesting and friendly way that we did not know before.
① When ramen is fried, the moisture content is about 4?6%, so microorganisms cannot exist, and therefore no preservatives are used.
② The first ramen in Korea was Samyang Ramen on September 15, 1963.
③ When ramen first appeared in Korea, the price was 10 won.
④ Since 2010, ramen does not contain MSG.
A congratulatory performance by singer Hwang Chi-yeul is also scheduled, and about 55 members of his fan club from Korea and abroad will visit Gumi as a group for the first time in two years since COVID-19.
Having previously enjoyed a nostalgic trip in Gumi in September 2018, they are looking forward to the changed appearance of Gumi upon their return.
As statistics show that there are 6 million campers in Korea, camping festivals, which have become a tourism trend strengthened by the pursuit of eco-friendly and healthy leisure after COVID-19, will be held mainly by the Gyeongbuk Cultural Tourism Corporation.
Camping guide education for beginner campers, eco-friendly camping detergent making experiences, budget camping gear markets such as Carrot Market, and safety equipment necessary for camping will also be exhibited.
