[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Hyundai Motor Company will continue its commercial vehicle maintenance technician training project this year through its tenth industry-academia collaboration with universities.
On the 24th, Hyundai Motor announced on the 26th that it signed an industry-academia cooperation MOU with Gumi University to operate the ‘Hyundai Truck & Bus Academy’ at the 3rd-floor conference room of Gumi University’s main building, attended by Kwon Dong-geun, Head of Hyundai Motor’s High-Tech Development Center (Executive Director), Kim Jin-mok, Head of Hyundai Motor’s Daegu-Gyeongbuk-Ulsan Commercial Vehicle Regional Headquarters (Executive Director), and Jung Chang-joo, President of Gumi University, among other officials.
Through this agreement with Gumi University, Hyundai Motor will operate the ‘Hyundai Truck & Bus Academy’ at a total of 10 universities nationwide, adding to the existing nine universities.
The ‘Hyundai Truck & Bus Academy’ is a program where Hyundai Motor dispatches specialized commercial vehicle maintenance instructors to partner universities to provide lectures, and supports employment linked with Hyundai Bluehands, Hyundai Motor’s maintenance partner, by providing practice commercial vehicles, textbooks, scholarships, and more to nurture outstanding commercial vehicle maintenance talent.
Operating for a total of 10 weeks, the ‘Hyundai Truck & Bus Academy’ consists of a specialized curriculum combining theory and practice, covering everything from basic maintenance of Hyundai commercial vehicles to fault diagnosis, including introductions to future new technologies. Additionally, it offers various programs such as maintenance field experience and tours of the Cheonan Global Learning Center to provide valuable experiences for participating students.
Since the program’s first operation in 2018, new industry-academia partner universities have been steadily added. Currently, the program is running at a total of nine universities nationwide, including Ajou Motor College, Daewon University, Seoyoung University, Shinhan University, Jeonju Vision University, and Korea Polytechnic University campuses in Busan, Incheon, Namdaegu, and Changwon. Over the past four years, it has produced a cumulative total of 327 graduates, with 56 of them linked to employment, showing steady results.
Through this agreement with Gumi University, which uniquely operates a department related to construction equipment nationwide, Hyundai Motor plans to expand the educational scope of the ‘Hyundai Truck & Bus Academy’ to the special-purpose vehicle sector. Furthermore, in response to the increasing demand for commercial electric vehicles, Hyundai Motor will add an education course focused on commercial electric vehicles in 2023 to continuously nurture outstanding maintenance talent.
