[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Gunchan] A dog with parts of its body brutally mutilated was found in front of a restaurant in Jeongeup, Jeonbuk, but it died due to severe bleeding.
According to the Jeongeup Police Station in Jeonbuk and the Beagle Rescue Network on the 25th, a severely injured dog was found in front of a restaurant in Yeonji-dong, Jeongeup-si, around 2 p.m. the previous day.
The dog’s nose, chest, and other parts of its body were artificially mutilated by a sharp weapon. The dog, which was bleeding heavily, did not receive proper treatment and ultimately died.
The dog, presumed to be of the Sapsalgae breed, was known by the name 'Suni.' It was said to have saved its owner’s life by barking loudly when the owner collapsed from a stroke and was considered the neighborhood mascot.
A police official stated, "We are conducting inquiries and investigations to determine the circumstances," and added, "If the suspect is identified, they will be charged with violating the Animal Protection Act."

Under the current Animal Protection Act, anyone who kills or causes the death of an animal by cruel methods may be sentenced to up to three years in prison or fined up to 30 million won.
