Safe and Happy Senior Life... Busan Gijang-gun Dementia Relief Center Runs Dementia Prevention Program
Residents of Daeryong Village, Jangan-eup, Gijang-gun, Busan are participating in a dementia prevention program and receiving education.

The dementia prevention program involved Dementia Safety Center staff visiting the Daeryong Village senior citizens' center and small library to provide ▲early dementia screening ▲‘Learning About Dementia’ education ▲handicraft activities ▲dementia prevention exercises, aiming to improve local residents' awareness of dementia and provide information on dementia prevention.
Lee Jeong-ok, president of the Daeryong Village Senior Citizens' Association, said, “Due to the village's characteristics, it has been difficult for residents to use dementia-related facilities, but this program provided an opportunity to take an interest in dementia,” adding, “The cognitive activities learned in the program were beneficial and helpful.”
The Gijang-gun Dementia Safety Center designated Daeryong Village in Jangan-eup as a Dementia Safety Village in 2020 and has been operating dementia prevention management projects.
A ‘Dementia Safety Village’ refers to a village-centered dementia prevention and management community where neighbors' care and consideration enable residents to continue their daily lives safely and happily.
For the past two years, due to COVID-19, programs were conducted non-face-to-face by providing dementia cognitive kits, but from this year, as social distancing measures have been eased, the programs are being operated face-to-face.

In September, a dementia prevention program and campaign are planned to be held in Icheon Village, Ilgwang-eup, which was designated as a Dementia Safety Village in 2019.
