Seoul Municipal Crematorium and 14 Other Municipal Funeral Facilities Including Yongmiri to Operate Normally During Chuseok Holiday
Deployment of Traffic Control Personnel in Habitual Congestion Zones During Chuseok Holiday and First Weekend of September
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Facilities Corporation announced on the 26th that it will operate 14 municipal funeral facilities normally during this Chuseok holiday period, including the Seoul Municipal Crematorium, Yongmiri, and Byeokje Municipal Cemeteries.
Since the Lunar New Year holiday in 2020, municipal funeral facilities have had restrictions such as the closure of indoor columbariums and bans on food consumption due to COVID-19.
The corporation plans to deploy traffic control personnel at habitual congestion points such as Jangjaejang Entrance Samgeori, Yeondae Front Intersection, and Yongmi 1-ri Intersection in preparation for the influx of visitors during the weekend before and during the holiday. During the holiday period, 320 corporation employees will be on special duty to assist with grave visits and traffic guidance, supported by 160 traffic police officers.
Meanwhile, the corporation also operates the "Cyber Memorial House" service online, allowing people to honor and commemorate the deceased by visiting graves and performing ancestral rites. On the Seoul Municipal Crematorium website, users can search for the deceased, upload photos, offer flowers, or set up ritual food tables for memorial services. After registering as a member and setting the status to "public," relatives and acquaintances can also participate in the memorial.
