View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hyun-joo] On the 25th, the People Power Party announced that it will propose a partial amendment to the Social Security Benefits Act to eliminate welfare blind spots in relation to the 'Suwon Three Mothers' death case.
The amendment to the Act on the Use and Provision of Social Security Benefits and the Discovery of Beneficiaries, to be proposed by Kang Ki-yoon, the ruling party secretary of the National Assembly Health and Welfare Committee and a member of the People Power Party, includes provisions allowing beneficiaries to apply for social security benefits at their current place of residence's city, county, or district without a request from the central administrative agency, even if their actual residence differs from their registered address, and to receive benefits for a certain period. It is known that the three mothers who lived in Suwon were unable to receive welfare services such as basic living benefits because they did not register their move despite financial hardship and illness.
Additionally, the People Power Party's Policy Committee plans to add information such as long-term loan repayment delays, excessive medical expenses relative to income, and emergency loan applications secured by pensions, in addition to the 34 types of information linked to the welfare blind spot detection system.
