Korea Non-Life Insurance Association Launches Advisory Service on Fault Ratios in Electric Kickboard Accidents
[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] The General Insurance Association announced on the 25th that it will launch a service providing advisory opinions on the apportionment of fault in the event of disputes arising from accidents involving personal mobility devices (PMDs) such as electric kickboards and electric bicycles, as accidents involving these devices have surged recently.
The association explained that the service will be operated on a trial basis from this month until December, after which it will decide whether to continue it.
Accordingly, parties involved in electric kickboard and bicycle accidents who have liability insurance can request advisory opinions on fault apportionment through their insurance companies if both parties agree.
Consumers can first verify whether the accident is covered under the policy terms and then submit evidence such as black box footage, action cam videos, or photos that help determine fault apportionment through their insurance company.
The association stated that the advisory opinions will be provided after consultation with members of the "Automobile Accident Fault Apportionment Dispute Deliberation Committee," whose expertise has been verified.
