Jeju Police Agency to Implement Special Traffic Control During Grave Mowing Period Starting from the 27th

[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Jeongpil] The Jeju Police Agency (Chief Lee Sang-ryul) announced on the 25th that from the 27th of this month to the 4th of next month, during the Chuseok pre-harvest period, they will conduct special traffic management by pre-deploying police forces at major congested intersections in cooperation with the Jeju Autonomous Police Corps.

The Jeju Police expect an increase in cases of drunk driving after people finish the pre-harvest and ancestral rites and have a ceremonial drink, so they plan to carry out special drunk driving crackdowns during daytime hours.

In particular, crackdowns will be conducted by changing times and locations, focusing on areas with a concentration of restaurants located in eup and myeon districts and other suburban areas.

During the two-day drunk driving crackdown on September 4th and 5th, the pre-harvest period before last year’s Chuseok (September 21st), a total of 26 people were caught.

Notably, 11 people were caught during daytime hours.

Chief Lee Sang-ryul said, “We will focus police officers on traffic safety to ensure a safe and happy Chuseok pre-harvest period and strive to minimize inconvenience caused by road congestion.”

He added, “As penalties for drunk driving have been strengthened, cases of being caught for drunk driving even after drinking one or two glasses of alcohol are increasing. Ahead of Chuseok, we urge everyone not to get behind the wheel if they have had even a single drink during the ceremonial drinking after the pre-harvest.”
