On the 24th, Shinsegae Group announced that it has agreed to comprehensively cooperate with Incheon City on the construction of Starfield Cheongna, a baseball dome stadium, and the establishment of a new subway station. Shin Yong-jin, Vice Chairman of Shinsegae Group, and Yoo Jeong-bok, Mayor of Incheon City, met at Incheon City Hall on the same day and agreed to strengthen cooperation to promptly advance the state-of-the-art dome stadium in Cheongna.
The dome stadium being promoted by Shinsegae Group will have a capacity of 20,000 seats and will serve as a multi-stadium cultural space where visitors can enjoy not only baseball games but also various cultural and artistic events such as K-pop performances. Considering that only 72 out of the 144 professional baseball games are held at the home stadium, the plan is to develop it as a complex cultural venue accessible to Incheon citizens even on the 293 days when no baseball games are held. The venue will be used for K-pop concerts, performances by internationally renowned artists, international e-sports tournaments, and various exhibitions, without interfering with professional baseball games.
Based on its experience and capabilities in operating the complex shopping mall Starfield along with the dome stadium, Shinsegae Group plans to swiftly develop Starfield Cheongna, a stay-type complex shopping mall spanning from three basement floors to six above-ground floors, where shopping, culture, leisure, and entertainment can all be enjoyed in one place.
Shinsegae Group and Incheon City also agreed to continue cooperating to promptly advance the establishment of the new subway station. The detailed design for the new station will be completed within this year, and construction is scheduled to begin next year. They will work together to ensure that the new station, along with the already confirmed existing stations, is completed by 2027.
Shinsegae Group and Incheon City emphasized, "The construction of Starfield and the dome stadium will not only create jobs in the Incheon area and invigorate the local economy but also elevate Cheongna to become a representative landmark of the western metropolitan area."
Vice Chairman Shin said, "Through the prompt advancement of the Cheongna dome stadium, Incheon will be able to open the era of dome stadiums ahead of other local governments. This will play a role in developing Incheon into an international city."
Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok of Incheon City stated, "I hope Incheon City becomes a foothold opening the future of South Korea, and that Shinsegae Group grows into a global company in Incheon. I look forward to Incheon City and Shinsegae Group cooperating as partners for regional development."
