Samsung and LG Display Participate in IMID 2022... Showcase New OLED Technologies (Comprehensive)
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Sun-mi] Samsung and LG Display are participating in the ‘International Meeting on Information Display (IMID) 2022’ held at BEXCO in Busan until the 26th, showcasing a large number of next-generation OLED technologies.
According to industry sources on the 24th, Samsung Display announced that it will publicly unveil its 77-inch TV QD-OLED product for the first time at this exhibition. Having launched 34-inch monitor QD-OLED and 55- and 65-inch TV QD-OLEDs earlier this year, Samsung Display is expanding its QD-OLED lineup by introducing the 77-inch product at this conference.
In addition, Samsung Display exhibited the 65-inch QD-OLED alongside existing technologies, highlighting the superior picture quality of QD-OLED, including its vivid colors and wide viewing angles.
Next-generation concept products demonstrating Samsung Display’s unparalleled foldable technology are also attracting significant attention at this conference. A Samsung Display official explained, "We exhibited the ‘Flex S,’ which folds twice outward and inward, the ‘Flex G,’ which folds twice inward, and the laptop-type ‘Flex Note.’ We also showcased a gaming foldable OLED with controllers on both sides that can be folded in half, which drew many young visitors."
LG Display revealed research results on ‘EX Technology,’ applied to next-generation OLED TV panels launched this year, at IMID 2022. The next-generation TV panel with ‘EX Technology,’ which consists of ‘heavy hydrogen technology’ and a ‘personalization algorithm’ applied to organic light-emitting elements, increases screen brightness (luminance) by 30% compared to previous models, expresses natural colors more precisely, and achieves perfect black under any environment.
They also introduced numerous research results that utilize AI and deep learning technologies in the manufacturing process to improve display performance, shorten circuit design time, and increase production efficiency. Additionally, a new sound measurement method to evaluate TV audio quality was proposed. This was in response to the growing demand for high-quality sound from consumers due to the recent increase in home cinema and gaming populations, necessitating an objective and quantitative measurement method that considers the actual viewing environment of customers.
LG Display also exhibited the largest existing OLED, the ‘97-inch OLED TV panel,’ at the IMID event booth.
