Embroidering Media Art on World Heritage Sites
'World Heritage Media Art' at Suwon Hwaseong, Baekje Historic Areas, and More
Media art will be showcased at World Heritage sites such as Suwon Hwaseong Fortress and the Baekje Historic Areas.
On the 24th, the Cultural Heritage Administration announced that from September to November, 'World Heritage Media Art' will be held in eight local governments nationwide. This program applies digital media technology to promote the value of World Heritage sites. It will take place at Suwon Hwaseong Fortress, Baekje Historic Areas (Buseosan Fortress in Buyeo and Gongsanseong Fortress in Gongju), Iksan Mireuksaji, Gochang Dolmen Site, Yangsan Tongdosa Temple, Hamyang Namgye Seowon Confucian Academy, and Jeju Volcanic Island and Lava Tubes.
At Iksan Mireuksaji, from October 3 to November 3, a media facade on the outer wall, drone shows, and public art projects will be presented under the theme "Light of Baekje, Building Hope - Jeokgong Pagoda Never Collapses (A Carefully Built Pagoda Will Not Fall)." At Buseosan Fortress in Buyeo, from September 16 to October 15, the stories of King Seong and King Wideok, who dreamed of the peaceful era of Baekje during the Sabi capital period, will be expressed through advanced media art technology. At Gongsanseong Fortress in Gongju, from September 17 to October 16, the status of the maritime kingdom of Great Baekje, which flourished through active overseas cultural exchanges, will be portrayed using media art, augmented reality (AR), and virtual reality (VR).
At Suwon Hwaseong Fortress, from September 23 to October 23, the event "Mancheonmyeongwol (萬川明月), Jeongjo's Dream Becomes Light" will be held. The media art show at Hwaseong Fortress’s Hwaseongmun Gate will depict King Jeongjo’s dream of a "reform new city," and the 1.1 km section of Suwoncheon Stream from Hwaseongmun Gate to Namsumun Gate will be transformed into a media art walking path. At Yangsan Tongdosa Temple, one of the World Heritage "Sansa, Korean Mountain Monasteries," the founding legend and the value of the World Heritage site will be conveyed through media art (September 3 to October 3). At Hamyang Namgye Seowon Confucian Academy, the program "Song of Light, Illuminating the Seowon" (September 30 to October 30) will tell the story of the academy and the spirit of the seonbi scholars.
