Electric Boat Flying Over Water Uses Polestar Battery
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] Electric vehicle brand Polestar announced on the 24th that it will supply batteries to Candela, a Swedish electric hydrofoil boat company.
The company stated that this is the first direct battery technology agreement between the automotive industry and the marine industry. It is a multi-year contract to supply batteries and charging systems. This is also the first time Polestar is supplying batteries to an external company.
Candela's electric boats use a computer-controlled system that attaches wings under the hull to lift the boat above the water surface, reducing friction and enabling hydrofoil-style movement as if flying above the water. It reportedly uses up to 80% less energy at high speeds compared to conventional motorboats. It eliminates exhaust emissions and leaves a lighter environmental footprint. Noise levels are also relatively low.
Thomas Ingenlath, CEO of Polestar, said, "It is incredible that Polestar has become a supplier providing essential components for Candela's innovative propulsion and a part of future projects. We can contribute to the transition to cleaner seas and lakes and the electrification of marine transportation." Gustav Hasselskog, CEO of Candela, stated, "By combining efficient underwater technology with high-capacity battery technology, we will accelerate the popularization of electric boats."
