Lotte Mart announced on the 24th that from the 25th to the 31st, it will hold a discount event on highland cabbage harvested from Anbandegi, a highland vegetable complex near Daegwallyeong at an altitude of 1100m, at all its stores in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.
This year, due to rising cultivation costs such as agricultural material prices, oil prices, and labor costs, as well as poor cabbage crop conditions caused by heatwaves and heavy rains, a shortage of supply has continued, causing cabbage prices to rise sharply. The yield per pyeong of highland cabbage has decreased by more than 40%, with the usual harvest of 9 heads per pyeong dropping sharply to 4-5 heads this year.
According to Agricultural Products Marketing Information Service (KAMIS) as of August 22, the price of top-grade highland cabbage was 6,717 won per head, nearly a 50% increase from 4,492 won at a similar time last year.
To stabilize prices, Lotte Mart pre-planned 120 tons of Anbandegi cabbage and sells it at 4,990 won per head, about 30% cheaper than the market price. Additionally, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, Lotte Mart is running the "Agricultural and Livestock Products Discount Coupon, Nonghal! Let's Do Nonghal Korea" discount event, offering a 20% discount for L.Point members when paying with event cards, selling the cabbage at about 3,992 won, approximately 40% cheaper than the market price.
Lotte Mart said it focused on discovering differentiated production areas that suffered relatively less damage from heatwaves and heavy rains, introducing Anbandegi cabbage near Daegwallyeong, which is highly rated for its quality among highland cabbages. Anbandegi cabbage, grown in the high-altitude area near Daegwallyeong at 1100m above sea level, is characterized by its dense core and crunchy texture, having grown in cold winds.

Baek Seung-hoon, a vegetable product planner (MD) at Lotte Mart, said, "This year, due to heatwaves and heavy rains, cabbage crop conditions were poor, causing prices to rise significantly compared to previous years. Ahead of the holidays, we prepared in advance for the rising cabbage prices by offering high-quality highland Anbandegi cabbage at affordable prices to ease the burden on customers."
