Review of 5 Types of Orange Juice
What comes to mind first when you think of hotel breakfast? A freshly made omelet or scrambled eggs? Or perhaps a buttery croissant? Smoked salmon? For me, it has always been the longing for a glass filled to the brim with orange juice. The bright yellow color as if the sun has been tightly squeezed, and the refreshing sweet and sour scent of orange. I found it so fascinating to see kids my age sitting at the table drinking orange juice and eating cereal in various media I encountered as a child that even now, as an adult, if asked to choose my favorite juice, it would undoubtedly be orange juice.
Summer is the best season to enjoy a hotel staycation, so I gathered five types of orange juice sold domestically in one place.
※I wanted to try all the products, but unfortunately, I only selected those easily found at nearby large supermarkets, not every juice available.
Del Monte Cold
Perhaps the most famous orange juice brand in Korea. If you were an adult during the latte era, you might remember putting boiled barley tea into the leftover juice glass bottles. Although I couldn’t get the Del Monte 100 juice in the glass bottle, the Cold product from the same brand has a comparable name value.
Overall, the sour taste is much stronger than the sweetness, and it feels heavy. At the end, there is a very faint bitter taste typical of orange-type fruits. The pulp cell, which is the orange’s inner peel, might be a matter of preference.
Seoul Milk Morning Juice
For those who frequently used convenience stores during university or work life, this is a very familiar brand. When I first saw it, the 210ml bottle size felt quite cute. It was just a cute one-bite size, though.
The first sip is close to the most ordinary taste that comes to mind when thinking of orange juice. It is sweet and sour. There is no pulp or pulp cell, just juice, but it is not diluted or bland. The throat feel is light, but it has enough refreshing quality that orange juice provides. It feels closest to the standard of orange juice.
Coca-Cola Minute Maid
If coffee has T.O.P., orange juice has Minute Maid. The price is high, matching its luxurious image, so I always had to muster up courage to buy it each time.
Overall, it tastes similar to Morning Juice. The slightly sour scent is stronger, and the focus is more on sourness than sweetness. The texture is moderate. You don’t feel the inner peel or chew pulp, but there is a subtle density when drinking. The zinc-rich label on the package caught my eye. Could this density be the taste of zinc?
Pulmuone I’m Real Pure Squeezed Orange Juice
Personally, I think this product has the prettiest bottle neck line among all orange juices.
As the name “pure squeezed” suggests, it has the least artificial taste among the five products. There is no tongue-stimulating sensation. Perhaps because of that, it feels rather light. The throat feel is smooth like water. It might be preferred by those who find it bland but expect the natural aroma and taste of orange without added sugar.
Lotte Chilsung Ttaom Cheonhyehyang Hallabong Cheonggyul
There was a small mistake at first. I bought the product, but it included Cheonhyehyang, Cheonggyul, and Hallabong, not just orange. I considered excluding it from the review, but wondered what difference it would make compared to orange, so I included it below. First, the juice color is deep. While typical orange juice is a light and transparent yellow, this has a deep orange color as if canary yellow paint was added.
As stated, it really tastes like Hallabong. If you usually want to feel the difference between orange and Hallabong, this one bottle of juice will clearly show the difference. However, I couldn’t really tell the flavors of Cheonhyehyang and Cheonggyul. Overall, it is a juice with a prominent sweetness. For those who usually find orange juice too sour, this one will taste much better.
Summer is already nearing its end. Soon, the days will get shorter and mornings darker. Before that, I want to enjoy the end of summer. So this morning, I must have orange juice and jam-spread bread. I will enjoy today’s summer and prepare to embrace the next season.
