Shinan-gun Holds Academic Conference for Revitalizing Rural and Fishing Village Tourism in 2022
Hosted by the Korean Rural Tourism Association, Held for 2 Days on the 19th-20th in Sinan
[Sinan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-kyung] The 2022 Rural Tourism Revitalization Academic Conference was held on the 19th at Sinan County Office in Jeollanam-do, with over 100 attendees, to explore various development strategies for revitalizing rural and fishing village tourism.
Sponsored by Sinan County, this academic conference was organized by the Korea Rural and Fishing Village Tourism Association.
The conference began with an opening address by Chairman Park Seok-geun, followed by a welcome speech from Sinan County Governor Park Woo-ryang, and congratulatory remarks from County Council Chairman Kim Hyuk-sung.
The first session featured thematic presentations on Sinan County's tourism resources and revitalization. Chaired by Hwang Jong-hwan, Chairman of the Knowledge Sharing Win-Win Network, six presenters delivered their reports: Chairman Park Seok-geun on "Plans for Creating Flopia in Sinan County's Mureungdowon," Dr. Choi Kala on "Sinan County's Landscape Colors and Island Tourism Revitalization Plans," and Professor Cho Rok-hwan of Daegu Haany University on "Strategies for Fostering the Island Healing Industry in Sinan County," among others.
The second session focused on case studies of tourism revitalization in other cities and counties. Chaired by Yoo Sang-oh, Head of Future Strategy Headquarters at Anshim LPC, five presenters including Professor Kim Seung-chul of Korea University and Dr. Lim Yong-taek delivered their presentations.
Chairman Park Seok-geun stated, "This academic conference was a meaningful gathering to discuss and explore strategies and solutions for rural and fishing village tourism centered on Sinan County," adding, "I hope the presentations will contribute to the revitalization of Sinan tourism."
Sinan County Governor Park Woo-ryang said, "It is significant that the academic conference for revitalizing rural and fishing village tourism was held in our region, which is emerging as a hub for rural tourism," and added, "We will make every effort to develop diverse ideas for Sinan County's tourism policies."

Meanwhile, the Korea Rural and Fishing Village Tourism Association was established in 1993 to conduct comprehensive research for the development of rural tourism and currently consists of about 500 members. Its main activities include proposing policy directions for Korean tourism and rural tourism development through various academic research and policy seminars.
