Wando-gun Dasima Processed Food Obtains 'Eco-Friendly Organic Marine Products' Certification

[Wando=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Kyung-pil] Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do, held a certificate awarding ceremony on the 19th after obtaining the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries' eco-friendly organic seafood certification for kelp processed products for the first time in the county.

Since 2020, the county has collaborated with local kelp-producing fishing households and Daehan Mulsan Co., Ltd., located in the agricultural and industrial complex, achieving the remarkable feat of acquiring the eco-friendly organic seafood certification for kelp processed products for the first time in the county within two years.

Moreover, it also obtained the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety's food safety management certification standard (HACCP), becoming the first in the nation to receive both eco-friendly organic seafood certification and food safety management certification simultaneously.

The organic seafood certification is a system where specialized certification agencies select and inspect farmed seafood under strict standards to provide consumers with safer edible aquaculture products, and the government certifies their safety.

With this certification, a system has been established that can handle everything from the production to processing and distribution of eco-friendly organic seafood at once.

Jung Dae-han, CEO of Daehan Mulsan Co., Ltd., said, “The seafood market is expected to rapidly shift to an eco-friendly production, processing, and distribution market, so we have been responding to organic processed food certification over the past two years. We will further strive for the high added value of Wando seaweed and the development of the seaweed industry by developing high-level processed foods such as organic seafood meal kits, as well as new materials for pharmaceuticals and industrial use.”

Shin Woo-cheol, Wando County Governor, said, “By simultaneously securing the international eco-friendly seafood certifications ASC and organic seafood certification in our county, it is expected to greatly contribute not only to strengthening the competitiveness of our county’s fisheries but also to pioneering overseas markets.”
